       Frederick D. Simmons Jr., born May 25, 1983, in Newburgh NY to Frederick D. Simmons Sr. and Tanya Christmas. Lil Fred, as he was affectionately known, attended Newburgh schools, graduating from Newburgh Free Academy. He attended SUNY New Paltz for two years and enlisted in the United States Navy. Lil Fred completed the Nuclear Engineering program and was an Electricians Mate assigned to the U.S.S. Carl Vinson, stationed in Norfolk VA. He was honorably discharged in September 2009, and moved to Baltimore MD, where he continued his education at Community College of Baltimore County, (CCBC). Lil Fred was a quiet, gregarious, gentle giant who loved his family, the Internet, and all types of literature, especially science fiction. He was a deep thinker and had a wonderful, witty sense of humor. Lil Fred departed this life way too soon, on October 25, 2011, at home in Baltimore, MD. Left to cherish his memory are his father, Fred Sr. of Rock Hill, NY; mother, Tanya of Albany, NY; stepmother, Glenda McPherson-Simmons of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandmother, Gladys T. Simmons of Richmond, VA; brother, Anton Christmas of Newburgh; sister, Melody Christmas of Albany; stepsister, Kristen Nicole Briggs of Philadelphia, PA; five aunts: Nicki Simmons, Sharon Simmons, Carla Simmons, Jane Simmons, and Constance Bryant (Joe); three uncles: Booker Simmons III (Loretta), Willie Simmons Sr, and Kenneth Simmons, and a host of cousins and friends. Lil Fred was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Booker T. Simmons Jr; maternal grandmother, Georgia Mae Christmas; uncle, William Michael Simmons Sr, and aunt, Mavis Christmas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. till noon. The service will follow at noon, at the Vaughn C Greene funeral home, 5151 Baltimore National Pike, Baltimore MD, 21229. 410-233-2400. Interment will be at the Garrison Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD, with Full Military Honors. Arrangements are by Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Home, Baltimore, MD.
