Message:

Betty Caroline Gross Amon, has returned home on April 12, 2012, devout Roman Catholic, has returned home after her 95 1/2 years well spent on this earth. Betty was the daughter of the late Anton and Minnie Gross of Newburgh, NY, where she was also born and raised. She was married to the late Captain John E. Amon, USCGR, with whom she brought four charismatic boys into this world, Richard B. (Rick) of Stratford, CT, Jay Dennis (Denny) of Sante Fe, NM, Philip M. (Flip) of Oviedo, FL, and Ronald E. (Ronnie) of Marblehead, MA. Her sons blessed her with seven grandchildren, five girls and two boys who in turn blessed her more by giving her the pleasure of being "GiGi" to her great grandsons for the last fifteen years. Betty was loved by her many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sisters, Tess Waters of Cornwall, NY and Barbara Canzoneri of Newburgh, NY and predeceased by another sister and seven brothers. Betty spent 46 years living in Rowayton, CT then moved to Darien, Stratford and finally Shelton. Betty was an avid dancer winning numerous dance contests in her younger years, though she never stopped dancing in the later years. Betty did not leave a stone unturned. She traveled the world visiting over a dozen countries by air or by boat. Betty volunteered at the Church and the Thrift Shop. Her style was colorful and imaginative, like herself. Her carefree spirit will be missed though it has been embedded in us all. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:30a.m., meeting directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Avenue, Shelton, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8:00p.m., in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 38 Richards Road, Norwalk, CT 06854-2318.
