Jason Matthew Coffey, died Sept. 11, 2001, a victim of the coordinated terrorist attacks against the United States in New York, Washington DC, and elsewhere. Michael was a graduate of NFA in 1994. Jason died with his father on that day in Sept, 11th, 2001.
Jason Matthew Coffey, of the Town of Newburgh, N.Y. an accountant for March & McLennan in New York City, and a lifetime area resident, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, along with his father, Daniel M. Coffey, victims of the World Trade Center tragedy. He was 25. The son of Frances Macchia Coffey and the late Daniel Michael Coffey, Jason was born December 20, 1975, in Newburgh. Jason graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and Bryant College, earning his BS in Accounting. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh, and a member of Bryant College Rugby Team. Jason is survived by his mother, Frances Macchia Coffey of Newburgh; his fiancée, Colleen McDonald; two brothers, Daniel D. Coffey M.D. of Lake Charles, La. and Kevin M. Coffey of Newburgh; his maternal grandparents, Dominic and Lena Macchia; his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Jeannette Coffey; his aunt and uncle, Maria and James Danieli; two cousins, Laura and Steven Danieli; and several great-aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held remembering Jason and his father Daniel at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 30, in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Monsignor John Budwick and Father Bill Scafidi presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on Jason's behalf may be made to the Daniel and Jason Coffey Memorial Fund, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, N.Y., 12550. Like Father, Like Son
On Sept. 11, Daniel M. Coffey and his son Jason M. Coffey planned to meet for lunch at the World Trade Center, where they both worked for subsidiaries of Marsh & McLennan. Daniel Coffey, 54, needed to have his wedding ring enlarged after 30 years of marriage. Jason Coffey, 25, was going along to pick out a surprise engagement ring for his fiancee, Colleen McDonald....Daniel Coffey, a senior vice president at Guy Carpenter & Company, worked on the 94th floor of One World Trade. Jason, a senior accountant at Marsh Inc., was on the 98th floor.....Daniel Coffey was the son and grandson of an only child and part of a family that has lived for generations in Newburgh, N.Y......He and his wife, Francis, broke the mold with three sons, Daniel, Jason and Kevin. Daniel Coffey met his wife when she was trying to fix him up with her friend.......One of his gifts was gab. "Dad could talk to virtually anyone and get anything he wanted out of them," said his son Daniel. With his wife, the elder Coffey was fixing up the house in Newburgh. "My mother is very particular about what she wants done, and my father was particular in how he did it," young Daniel said........Jason Coffey was a big guy who loved to play rugby. (His mother did not want him to play football. Too dangerous.) He was also always ready to go out, including to a local bar, Pineapple Larry's..........But now he was settling down. He was in the process of buying his grandparent's house in Newburgh and he and Ms. McDonald were going to fix it up, just like his father and mother did to their house. Daniel graduated from Valley Central High School and Marist College. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Commendation. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Daniel is survived by his parents, Daniel F. and Jeannette Bullis Coffey; his wife, Francis Macchia Coffey, whom he married on January 23, 1971, in Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh, at home; two sons, Daniel D. Coffey M.D. of Lake Charles, La. and Kevin M. Coffey, at home; one aunt, Roberta Greene; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dominic & Lena Macchia; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maria & James Danieli; one niece, Laura Danieli; one nephew, Steven Danieli; and several cousins.
