Marie E. Cathcart - Class of June 1933

     Marie E. Cathcart of New Windsor, entered into rest on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at New Windsor Country Inn in New Windsor. She was 98 years old. The daughter of the late Harry and Leona Doerr Cathcart, she was born August 2, 1915 in Newburgh. Marie was a 1933 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and entered St. Luke’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1936. Following her graduation, she did private duty nursing and then worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh and St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. She later went on to N.Y.U. and became a Public Health Nurse for the City of Newburgh, which was later taken over by Orange County and retired from there. She was a member of the St. Luke’s Nurse’s Alumni Association and Moulton Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member of the Beta Eta Class. She is survived by her sister Norma Weygant and her children Gary Weygant of NJ, Kristie Weygant of VA and Cathy Earisman of VT; her nephew Jack Burger and niece Joan Foster both of Newburgh; also many great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, Marie was also predeceased by her sister Evelyn L. Burger and her brother-in-law George F. Weygant. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 pm on Friday, May 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Derrick Lopez will be held at 2 pm following visitation. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor. The family wishes to express their gratitude to New Windsor Country Inn owner Paul Lockwood, manager Mary Knight and their staff. A special appreciation to private duty aides Ileen Dawkins for her countless hours of love and care and to Catherine Walden for her care. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Marie’s name to Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Old Little Britain Road, Newburgh, NY or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
