David V. "Dave" Tragis - Class of 1979

     David V. “Dave” Tragis, Sr. of Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on June 12, 2014 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. He was 54 years old. The son of the Alfred R. and Verna R. (Haynes) Tragis, Dave was born on June 20, 1959 in Prince Georges, Maryland. Dave graduated from NFA and was the head custodian for Wallkill Central School District. He was married to Teresa A. Piperato on June 6, 1981 in Newburgh, NY. Dave belonged to the Cronomer Valley Fire Department, Wallkill Fire Department and was past assistant chief and commissioner of the Good Will Fire Department. He was also a member of the Bethlehem Rod and Gun Club. Dave was a loving husband, father, uncle, brother, cousin, and grandpa who loved to hunt, fish, fly R/C planes, bowl, and help others. He will be greatly missed by all. Dave is survived by his wife of 33 years, Teresa at home; his children: Amanda M. Cornell and her husband Scott and David V. Tragis, Jr.; his siblings: Alfred Tragis, Jr and his wife Tina of Pocatello, ID, Evelyn Wilson and her husband James of St. Cloud, FL, and Steven Tragis of California; his granddaughter Kaylee Ann Cornell; his nieces and nephews: Nicole, Brianna, Gabrielle, Jasmine, Jimi, Jessica, Allyson, Steven, Rick, Kathleen, Nicholas, Caitlin, Kathy, Matthew, and Marie. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm on Tuesday, June 17 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A firematic service will be held at 7pm during visitation. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, June 18 at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Newburgh. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are being accepted by the family in Dave’s Name.
