Jean M. Mackey St. John - Class of 1945

   Jean M. Mackey St. John, age 87, of New Windsor NY, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Newburgh with her daughter Jill, and son, Jack and daughter-in-law, MaryEllen and son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Jean by her side. Born April 24, 1927 in Newburgh, NY, she was the daughter of the late Everitt James and the late Frances Mae Peck Mackey. She married Myron "Jack" St. John on March 16, 1947, in Jamaica, Queens, NY, and shared thirty-four years of marriage before he passed away on December 23, 1981. A graduate of Newburgh Free Academy (1945-see camera shy), Jean pursued a career with the Telephone Company. Then worked for Bishop Dunn School for many years, and with the Newburgh School District as a cafeteria/assistant baker, where she retired in 1978. For over ten years Jean worked with the satellite lunch program at Chestnut St. School, in the Newburgh School District, to help provide underprivileged children with a nutritious lunch. After retirement from the school district, Jean worked as an Office Clerk, for Dr. Jerome Witner Chiropractor, Newburgh, NY. Jean and her husband, Jack moved to Anderson, South Carolina and resided there from 1978-1982. In 1982, Jean returned to New Windsor. For over twenty years Jean was a "snowbird" and resided in Florida from January to April. She was a Member of Gardnertown Homeowners Assoc., AARP, Gardnertown Methodist Church, Board member/ past secretary of Kinsgswood Gardens Condominium Assoc., New Windsor, NY. Jean loved to snowmobile, sunbathe and swim, water ski, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed her vacations to Lake Luzerne and Long Beach Island, and snuggling with her favorite cat, Bugsy Magee. Jean is survived by her children and caregivers who include, two sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Jean St. John of Newburgh, NY; Jack and MaryEllen Wright-St. John of New Windsor, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and John Liguori of Tillson, NY; one sister, Sylvia Perry-Ripa of New Windsor, NY, granddaughter and husband, Jamie and Mike McLymore of Wallkill, NY; grandson, Gregg St. John of Newburgh, NY; granddaughter, Alexandria M. Liguori of Tillson, NY; grandson, Austin A. Liguori of Tillson, NY; Jean is also survived by her long-time friend and companion, Walter Renker, and many nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call from 3 to7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17th at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 S. Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18th at Gardnertown Methodist Church, 1191 Union Ave., Newburgh, NY with the Rev. Eileen Freeman, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Gardnertown Cemetery, Newburgh.
