Benjamin "John" Steele, Sr. - Class of 1956

     Benjamin "John" Steele Sr, was born on September 22, 1938, in Newburgh New York, passed away July 2, 2014. Son of Estelle M. Corbett and Benjamin CC Steele. John was born during the famous category 3 hurricane that hit the Northeast coast. While being born the lights went out and the generator power switched on. He is survived by his two sons Benjamin John Jr (Doris) and Robert Kenneth, Grandchildren, Kristen, Benjamin III, Jessica, Alexandra, and Samuel, his extended family, wife Nancy, Daughter Jill Horton (Paul), son William Tilton (Maureen), grandchildren Daniel Tilton, Lukas and Emily Horton. He is also survived by many cousins and close friends. John graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. While in High School he participated in music and sports activities. John went on to graduate first in his class from Orange County Community College. John was hired by IBM and worked there for 34 years and held various positions in management. With his friends and family John enjoyed golfing, skiing, salt water fishing, scuba diving and flying his Cessna 172. He achieved two holes in one during his golfing years. He also enjoyed umpiring softball and working in the Pro Shop of Mainlands Golf Course. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to All Children's Hospital, 501 6th Ave S, St Petersburg, Fl 33701. A celebration of life will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, Largo, Fl on Saturday July 12th, from 1:00 to 4:00. www.serenityfuneralhome.com
