Mary Buckbee Greene Flemming - Class of June 1940

     Mary Buckbee Greene Flemming, a lifelong Newburgh resident passed away on July 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 92 years old. The daughter of the late Oscar Roy and Gertrude Margarite (LeFevre) Greene, Mary was born on January 27, 1922 in Newburgh. She was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. She married Howard C. Flemming on January 16, 1940 at the Little Church around the Corner. Howard predeceased her in 1992. Mary was a proud member of the Southern Dutchess Singers. Mary G. Flemming, “Bee” was well known in the Hudson Valley as a soprano soloist, singing in many area concert halls and churches, including the First United Methodist Church and the West Point Chapel. A former Planned Parenthood advocate, Mary Bee became the compassionate voice of the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross, throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. As a family we will miss the constant and steadfast love of our mother and grandmother, and are thankful for her 92 years of vibrant living. Mary is survived by her loving children: Carolyn F. Troupe and her husband John Pfeiffer of Grand Prairie, TX, Howard C. Flemming, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Newburgh, NY, Eleanor Olsen and her husband Bruce of Seattle, WA, Mary B. Gregorius and her husband Hal of Pleasantville, NY, and Dwight R. Flemming and his wife Elisa of Newburgh, NY; 11 beloved grandchildren; and 15 cherished great-grandchildren. In addition her husband of 54 years, Mary was predeceased by her parents O. Roy Greene and Gertrude Greene, and her brother O. Roy Greene, Jr. Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 16 in The John Brown Room at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 105 Grand Street, Newburgh. A funeral service celebrated by The Rev Dustin Trowbridge will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 17 at St. George’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church in memory of Mary G. Flemming
