Dorothy Helen Statum Knab, age 83, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 in Pinellas Park, FL. She was born May 2, 1931 in Newburgh, New York and was the daughter of the late Lewis Statum and Adele Silvestri Statum. She was also preceded in death by a son, Douglas R. Knab, Jr. Mrs. Knab received an AA from Montgomery College in Maryland, a BA, Masters and PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD. Dorothy had a longstanding love of learning. She wrote papers concerning intergenerational education and lifelong learning. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Douglas Russell Knab, MD of St. Petersburg, FL, sons, David Kellum Knab, PhD and wife, Barbara of Charleston, SC and Darryl Robert Knab and wife, Agatha of Kill Devil Hills, NC and five grandchildren, Duane, Waylon, Farrah, David J. , and Dominic Knab. The family will receive fiends from 11 to 12 Noon on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, VA followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Piedmont Episcopal Church in Madison. The interment will be in Madison Memorial Gardens.
