Clifton "Clif" Thayer - Class of 1946

      Clifton G. "Clif" Thayer, of the Town of Newburgh, a retired self employed carpenter and then went onto work for the Parks Dept. for the Town of Newburgh entered into rest Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Mid Hudson Regional Medical Center in Pougkeepsie, NY. He was 86. He was the son of the late Frank and Marion Snyder Thayer, Clifton was born July 15, 1928 in Newburgh. Clifton proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the years 1946 to 1948 and was a member of the American Legion Post 1796 in New Windsor. Survivors include his children: Gary Thayer and his wife, Dawn of Gardiner, Cheryl Chappo and her husband, Louis of the Town of Newburgh; sisters: Virginia Glassey of New Windsor, and Barbara Maher of the Town of Newburgh; grandchildren: Steven Thayer, Amy Thayer and Andrew Thayer, Dina Chappo, Sandi Chappo and Louis Chappo II; as well as, nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, July 25th at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Rte 32) , Town of Newburgh. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
