Stuart Whipple - NFA Teacher

    Stuart Whipple, 82, died on August 13, 2009 at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Newburgh from complications of Parkinson's disease. He grew up in Claremont, NH and moved to the Newburgh area in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, followed by 12 years in the Army Reserves. Stuart had a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire and a Masters degree from Boston University. He taught languages in the Newburgh school system for more than 30 years and then spent almost 10 years tutoring local children and adults in English and other subjects. He loved Asian languages and culture, was very involved in the area's Chinese community and was able to go to China twice during his later years. Stuart is survived by his wife, Ann; his brother, Larry and wife, Jean, and four daughters: Karen Fitzpatrick, Meredith Whipple, Andrea Wheatley and her husband, Mark, and Shannon Owen and her husband, Jeff. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kathleen, Deborah and Daniel Fitzpatrick and Hannah Sheldon.
