Joseph F. Presutti - Class of 1944

     Joseph F. Presutti, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, NY passed away with his loving family by his side at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh. He was 87 years old. The son of the late Vincent James and Rose (Mancuso) Presutti, Joseph was born on October 12, 1926 in Newburgh, NY. He received his high school diploma from Newburgh Free Academy with the class of 2001. He married Elizabeth E. Jackson on September 15, 1951 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newburgh. Joe was retired from West Point Military Academy where he worked as an electrician for 32 years. Joe proudly and honorably served his country in WWII in the United States Navy. He achieved the rank of Seaman First Class and received several medals including, the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 1 Star. Joe was a proud member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 386, the VFW Post 1161, and the American Legion Post 0521. Joe also belonged to the Black Rock Fish and Game Club and was a proud member of the Coldenham Fire Department. Joe was a loving husband, father, and a devoted family man. He was selfless, always putting everyone else’s interests above his own. Joe was loved by everyone that knew him. He was a sociable man with an outgoing personality who loved to laugh. There was never any doubt where you stood with Joe because he didn’t have a problem speaking his mind. Joe’s patriotism was unparalleled. He enjoyed visiting schools and sharing his World War II experiences and historical artifacts with students. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and acquaintances. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth at home; his children: Donna Suydam and her husband Steve of Montgomery, NY, Joseph N. Presutti and his wife Lynne of Durham, NC, James Presutti and his wife Tammy of Newburgh, John Presutti and his wife Tammy of Wallkill, NY, and Jay Presutti and his wife Laurie of Pine Bush, NY; his siblings: Vincent Presutti of Brandon, FL, Felix Presutti of Wallkill, NY, Donald Presutti, of New Windsor, NY, and Michael Presutti of Newburgh, NY; his grandchildren: Jason Rosenwasser, Sarah Rosenwasser, Matthew Presutti, Bryan Presutti, Megan Presutti, Neil Presutti, Nicole Presutti, Sydney Presutti, Kayla Presutti; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his loving sister Rose Moresco. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 28 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Scafidi at 10 am on Friday, August 29 at Sacred Heart Parish, Newburgh. Burial with military and firemen honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to the Coldenham Fire Department, 511 Coldenham Rd, Walden, NY 12586.
