Eileen M. Martin Joiner, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, August 29, 2014 at home. She was 73. Daughter of the late William and Mable (Young) Martin, she was born February 22, 1941 in New York, NY. Eileen was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, and retired as a Nurses Assistant from Castle Pont VA Hospital. She was a member of the Cronomer Valley Fire Department Womens Auxiliary. Eileen will be fondly remembered as a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She was adored by her grandchildren who were the joys of her life. She loved animals and volunteered countless hours to local animal shelters. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, John Joiner and his wife Marcia of Scottsdale, AZ and Debra and her husband David Simmons of Plaistow, NH; her sister Lydia Stewart of Kalispeli, Montana; her brother Joseph Martin of Vancouver, Canada; her grandchildren, Alexa J. Simmons, Courtney J. Simmons and Emily P. Joiner; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Widor. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, September 3 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 4 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh, with burial following in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Eileen’s memory may be sent to your local animal shelter or ASPCA.
