Harry "Roy" Radford - Class of 1957

          Harry “Roy” Radford a lifelong Newburgh resident entered into rest on September 2, 2014 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He was 75 years old. The son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Coulson) Radford, Roy was born on February 1, 1939 in Derbyshire, England. He was a 1957 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. After high school, Roy served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He reached the rank of Airman Second Class and was honorably discharged. On September 12, 1965 he married Angela LaMarca in Newburgh, NY. Until his retirement, Roy was a Crew Chief in the Gas Division of Central Hudson. Roy was a free spirit who loved adventures of all kind. After several years of traveling with the Air Force and on his own, Roy settled back in Newburgh where he married his girl Angie and started their family. He was a father to many, not just his children. He was a hardworking, courageous man who was a lifelong employee of Central Hudson and shop steward for IBEW. Roy is survived by his longtime companion and “lady friend” Joyce Turner; his children: Roy Radford of Newburgh, Mary Radford of Newburgh, Joseph Radford and his wife Jennifer Radford of Newburgh; his brother Dennis Radford of Englewood, FL; his grandson Connor Joseph Radford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife Angela Radford, his brothers: Harold and Walt; and his sisters: Joyce and May. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, September 5 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roy’s name to the Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance Corp, 97 South Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550.
