Anna Mary Sullivan Scribner - Class of 1947

Anna Mary Sullivan Scribner, passed away on September 13, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. She was born to Dennis Vincent Sullivan and Anna Foley Sullivan on October 14, 1930 in Newburgh, New York and was a 1947 graduate of Newburgh Free Academy. A resident of Georgia since 1972, Anne was a dedicated and loyal employee of Southern Bell and BellSouth Advertising and Publishing Company for 27 years. In retirement, she served on the board of her neighborhood’s home owners association and was a much-loved and valued member of the community. Anne was proud of her Irish heritage and learned all she could about Ireland and her family’s history. Among Anne’s other pleasures were cooking for her friends and family (particularly her corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread), gardening, growing African Violets, and reading and watching murder mysteries. Her love for and generosity toward her family was unmatched as was her notorious soft-spot for her cats and countless stray felines. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws, Linda and Greg Lane of Panama City, Florida, Kathleen and Charles Murphy of Catsonsville, Maryland, and Mary and John Wallace of Columbus, Georgia. She is also survived by granddaughters Melissa Lee of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Amy Lane of Vernon, Florida, and Emily Lane of Chico, California. In accordance with her wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s memory to any of the following organizations would be greatly appreciated: Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine Small Animal Research, American Lung Association, St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, or any no-kill animal shelter or charity for cats.
