John James Crudele - Class of 1949

      John James Crudele, 83, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, a retired general contractor, died in Hilo, Hawaii on September 10, 2014. He was born in Newburgh, N.Y. June 23, 1931 the son of James and Elvira Crudele. Graduated from Newburgh Free Academy, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and graduated from the State University of New York, majoring in construction. John was employed as a longshoreman on the docks of New Jersey until his relocation to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii with his family. John built many beautiful homes in Newburgh, New Windsor, and Hawaii. He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Kona Lions Club. Survivors include his loving companion, Connie Caldwell; son, Robert Crudele of Hilo, HI; daughters: Paige De Lima (Brian) of Hilo and Shelly Connelly (Kevin) of New Jersey; and five grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters: Caroline Sarvis (George), Rosie Crudele, and Carmella Hillman, all of Newburgh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held in Hilo, HI and Newburgh, NY, where his remains will be interred. Arrangements under the care of Brooks Funeral Home.
