Jean M. Mitchell Smith of Milton, NY passed away October 22, 2014 at Wingate of Ulster. She was born in Newburgh, NY on December 5, 1935, the daughter of Tom and Anna A. Mitchell. Jean worked for the New York Telephone Co. Prior to getting married, Jean worked as assistant kitchen aid in the Milton Elementary school. Jean was a committee member for Troop 73 Boy Scouts of America for years and volunteered with her late husband, Charles J. Smith, Jr. at Camp Tri-Mount in East Jewit, NY. Jean and her husband were life time campers and hikers from New York to Maine. Jean is survived by daughters: Deborah Gilliland and Kim A. Brooks and sons: Charles T. Smith III, Wayne M. Smith, Kevin H. Smith; also by five grandchildren; two step grandchildren and one great grandson. Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Sutton Funeral Home, One Woodside Place, Highland. A Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday will be held at St. James R.C. Church in Milton. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marlboro, NY.
