Evelyn "Evie" Shartz Klindtwort - Class 1945

    Evelyn "Evie" Shartz Klindtwort, a lifelong resident of Newburgh, passed away on October 25, 2014 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush, NY. She was 86 years old. The daughter of the late Dellon and Margaret (DeLuca) Shartz, she was born May 22, 1928 in Garwood, NJ. Evelyn is predeceased by her beloved husband Max "Billy" Klindtwort; cherished mother of Richard Napolitano of Latham, NY and Lori Napolitano of Scotchtown, NY; loving grandmother of Ali, Anthony, Nicole, Tyler, Danielle and Dakota; and great-grandmother of Talia, Dominick and Maxamillian. She was predeceased by her sister Margie Wood. Evie was employed for 30 years as the Secretary to the Civil Service Commission for the City of Newburgh. She enjoyed the game of softball and was a true Mets fan. She was known as a "Bleacher Creature", a fan of Didey's Ducks, West End Grill, and Newburgh Firefighters, which Max played on all three teams. Evie was an avid bowler and bowled in a league at Campi Tarsio, was an avid golfer and belonged to Osiris and Otterkill Country Clubs, and enjoyed traveling and spending winters in St. Augustine, FL. She loved fine dining, shopping, and especially loved to dance. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Commons that cared for our mother. We are grateful for the love, devotion, kindness and excellent care that you gave "Evie". It made her journey much easier and we feel blessed you were a part of her life. Visitation will be held from 1-3 and 5-7 pm on Wednesday, October 29 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 30 at the funeral home, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
