Joseph Geraci - Class of 1951

     Joseph Geraci, a lifetime resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Monday, October 27, 2014. He was 80 years old. Son of the late Sebastian and Mary (Sutton) Geraci, he was born September 10, 1934 in Newburgh. He was married to the late Myra (Wiersena) Geraci, who predeceased him in 1998. Joseph was an Eagle Scout who loved nature of which he enjoyed painting and photographing. He enjoyed gardening, music, and had a passion for breeding and showing boxers which he shared with his children. As proprietor and part owner of Geraci's Market, Joe enjoyed serving customers as friends and community members. He loved to serve others and was an honorary member of Unico and the Vails Gate Fire Co. An avid member of the Newburgh Chapter of Unico, one of his proudest accomplishments was to help lead the placement of the Columbus statue on the Hudson riverfront in Newburgh and tending the surrounding grounds. He always put his heart in his work whether it was hand selecting the best quality meat as a buyer, special cuts as a butcher, or decorating the storefront and sidewalks of Geraci's Market. He took pride in his work which he instilled in his family. He cherished his memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed with fond memories. Survivors include his children, Mary Kelder and her husband August of St. Charles, MO, Joe Geraci of Colorado Springs, CO, Richard Geraci and his wife Elaine of Navarre, FL and Gregory Geraci and his wife Maria of Marlboro, NY; sisters, Gloria and Elaine Geraci of Newburgh; grandchildren, Erik and Kourtney Kelder of St. George, UT, August and Jennifer Kelder of St. Charles, MO, Nathan Kelder of St. Charles, MO, Sonja and Nicholas Trupiano of St. Louis, MO, Sara Knaggs of St. Charles, MO, Kelly and Christopher Tetreault of S. Dakota, Emily Geraci of Colorado Springs, CO, Dylan Geraci in the US Navy, Richard Geraci Jr. of Navarre, FL, and Kayla and Jenna Geraci of Marlboro, NY; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Tristan and Kyle Kelder of St. George, UT, August W. Kelder IV of St. Charles, MO, Matthew Trupiano of St. Louis, MO, and Dylan, Sydney and Dominic Knaggs of St. Charles, MO. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday, October 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 31 at the funeral home, with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joseph's memory may be sent to Unico National Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2785, Newburgh, NY 12550.
