Claire M. But;ler Bivona - Class of June 1938

     Claire M. Butler Bivona affectionately known as Dolly, a lifelong Newburgh resident, went home to be with the lord on October 27, 2014 at Elant @ Meadow Hill in Newburgh. She was 95 years old. The daughter of the late Enoch and Roberta (Topping) Butler, Dolly was born on August 13, 1919 in Montrose, NY. She was a graduate of NFA in 1938. On March 20, 1942 she married Peter J. Bivona. Dolly was a strong, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was always there for her family. She loved spending time with her 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Over the years, she worked as a sales associate at Woolworth’s, at Sikorski Aircraft during World War II, Bivona’s Enterprises on Route 207 and at the luncheonette that she owned with her husband at the Bank of America in Newburgh. Dolly belonged to the Osiris Country Club and Tarsio Bowling League. She enjoyed camping, her favorite pastime however, was family time. Her selfless love and devotion has touched each of our lives. She will be greatly missed by all. Dolly is survived by her loving children: Andrew P. Bivona and his wife Carol of Newburgh, Carol Nocilla and her husband Frank of South Carolina, Nancy Maddux and her husband Fred of Pennsylvania, and Pamela Burns and her husband Royce of Pine Bush, NY; her grandchildren: Cheryl Conero, Janice Fanning, Laura Tucker, Bryan Pritchard, Michael Nocilla, Thomas Nocilla, Peter Burns, Russell Burns, Clifford Burns and Royce Burns; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Dolly was predeceased by her loving husband Peter J. Bivona in 1985. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, October 30 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12pm on Friday, October 31 at Sacred Heart Parish, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dolly’s name to the Hudson Valley SPCA, 940 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor, NY 12553.
