Thomas B. Gaffney, Jr. - Class of 1956

Thomas B. Gaffney Jr. , a long time resident of Newburgh, NY, and a retired Insurance Broker for Prudential Insurance Co., entered into rest on Monday, November 3, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was 76. Son of the late Thomas B. Gaffney Sr. and Adele (Collin) Gaffney, he was born May 31, 1938 in Plymouth, NH. He married Maria (Valentine) Gaffney on May 29, 1976 in Newburgh. Maria survives at home. This past Monday a bright light went out and a beautiful voice was silenced. Our family lost a wonderful, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. Tom taught us daily how to go forward while facing his many challenges. Tom has many accomplishments, including a very successful 42 year career with Prudential Insurance Company. During this time he was able to do what he loved, which was to help and offer advice when needed. His many contacts became extended family and he was always there when they needed him. Tom’s passions were his family, his friends, his career and golfing. He was a long standing member of the Powelton Club which gave him the opportunity to form life-long friendships for which we will always be grateful. It gives us great peace and comfort to know that his light will shine on through his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his children, Brian Gaffney and his wife Ann of Conifer, CO, Suzanne Raab and her husband Chris of Galloway, NJ, and Nichole Culotta and her husband Gianfranco of Briarcliff Manor, NY; two sisters, Sandra Gaffney of Melbourne, FL, and Merry Kurz and her husband Chet of Melbourne Beach, FL; grandchildren: Dylan, Caitlin, Giovanni, Eleonora, and Gianluca; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Nicholas J. Valentine and his wife Susan. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sherrill (Gaffney) Romash and Janet (Gaffney) Ross. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, November 7 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 8, at 9:30 am in St. Patrick's Parish, Newburgh, with Rev. Msgr. Gerardo Colacicco officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Smilow Cancer Institute, at Yale New Haven. Closer to Free Fund, P.O.
