Abbott, of the Town of Newburgh, the retired president of Abbott & Mills Inc. entered into rest, Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Cortland Health Care Center in Cortland Manor, NY. He was 84. The son of the late Louis and Dorothy Fowler Abbott, Richard was born August 23, 1930 in Newburgh. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army; past deputy, Orange County Fire Coordinator; life member, past chief, and past commissioner of the Cronomer Valley Fire Department; life member of the Orange County Volunteer Fire Fighters Assoc.; Hudson River Lodge F & AM; American Legion Post 1420. Survivors include his sons: Robert Abbott and wife, Sue of Rock Tavern, Ken Abbott of Newburgh; daughter, Patty Kennedy and husband, Ed of Eldred, NY; grandchildren: Kathleen Kennedy and Emily Abbott; sister, Elsie Eckler of Portland, OR. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Abbott, September 26, 2007 and his sister, Jeanne Mills. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 24th at the Cronomer Valley Fire Dept., 296 North Plank Rd., (Rte 32) in Newburgh. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 25th at the Gardnertown Church, 1191 Union Ave., Newburgh; Pastor Eileen Freeman will officiate. Burial is to follow in Gardnertown Cemetery. Following the cemetery, the family would like everyone to join them at the Cronomer Valley Fire Dept., 296 North Plank Rd., Town of Newburgh, NY.
