Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 24/Nov/2014 Message: Craig Macfarland, affectionately known as “Mac” a lifelong resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on November 23, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. He was 66 years old. The son of the late Frederick and Martha (Neubert) Macfarland, Craig was born on December 19, 1947 in Newburgh, NY. When he was 12 years old in 1960, he was named “Boy of the Year” by the West End Junior Sportsman Club. He was called “Little Mac” by his club friends. He played in the Elks Little baseball league, basketball, floor hockey and football. He was a member of St Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh, NY. He was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, class of 1965. He faithfully served his country in the Air Force Reserves. When President Eisenhower activated the Air Force Reserves 904th Military Airlift Command in the fall of 1968, he was sent to England. There he served as Sergeant of Disaster Control until the untimely death of his beloved brother, Richard Macfarland. He earned a Business Management Degree by going to night school at Harriman College in 1977. Craig married Colleen (O’ Shea) Macfarland in June 1969. Together they raised their two children Richard Macfarland (Tracy Sellars) of Millville, PA and Colleen (Macfarland) Rogalavich (Joseph) of Johnson City, NY. Craig took care of his wife until her death in February 1992. He continued to raise their children. On October 11, 2003 he married Thomasina (O’Shea/Blair) Macfarland at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Newburgh. Craig worked for Soft Drink Workers Union on a Pepsi route from 1966- 1982. In 1982, he was employed by the Federal Government at West Point as a heavy equipment operator, until his retirement in 2011. His grandchildren Gavin and Grace Rogalavich were the joy of his life. He was also blessed to be Godfather to Mikayla and Parker D’Amico. Craig loved to play cards at the Beacon Elks Club, trips to Monticello Raceway, casinos, and traveling. He enjoyed his yearly trip to Saratoga with his brothers and their wives. He was a member of the Newburgh VFW Post 973 and the Beacon Elks Club. There were so many people that helped Craig throughout his long illness. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Muhammed Choudhury, chairman of the Department of Urology at Westchester Medical Center who kept him alive for 10 years. Thank you to Dr. Tauseef Ahmed, his oncologist at Westchester Medical Center, Drs. Uma and Shanti Mirsha of Orange Radiation Oncology. A special thank you to Muhammed at Orange Radiation Oncolgy. A special thank you to Dr. Fauzia Paracha, Craig’s oncologist in Newburgh, who took him as a patient in February 2014 until his death. Her kindness and compassion will not be forgotten. Also, Orange County Hospice staff Tom Murphy, Craig’s nurse, his kindness and patience were appreciated. The family also wishes to thank all of the nurses and staff at the Bradhurst Infusion Center and Dr. Paracha’s office for the kindness and compassionate care you give every day to your patients. Craig is survived by his loving wife of 11 years Thomasina A. Macfarland, at home; his children Richard W. Macfarland (Tracy Sellars) of Millville, PA and Colleen Rogalavich (Joseph) of Johnson City, NY; his brothers: David Macfarland (Bevalie) of Newburgh and Robert Macfarland (Nancy) of Vero Beach, FL; his grandchildren: Gavin and Grace Rogalavich; his great-grandchildren: Alexis, Cooper and Sophie Mae; his godchildren: Mikayla and Parker D’Amico; his nieces and nephews: Sharon Henderson of Glens Falls, NY, Kim Aldrich of Colorado, Heather Catala of Cape Cod, Sherry Rose of Saratoga, NY, and Scott Macfarland of Ballston Spa; Kevin O’Shea of Virginia and many cousins and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, November 28 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, November 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Beacon Elks Club, 900 Wolcott Ave, Beacon, NY 12508 or to Dr. Fauzia Paracha, 327 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh, New York 12550 or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Coutnies, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
