Marcia Lynn Perrott - Class of 1967

 Lynn Perrott of Randallstown, Md., who was the co-owner and director of Mid-Atlantic Gymnastics Center and the USA Gymnastics Region 7 Administrative Committee chairperson for women’s gymnastics, died Dec. 16 following a long battle with cancer. A night of remembrance is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at 6 p.m. at FCF World Outreach in Owings Mills, Md.
Perrott was the co-owner/director of Mid-Atlantic since 1981. She was a nationally rated gymnastics judge and achieved the U.S. Brevet level. Perrott was the USA Gymnastics Maryland State Administrative Committee chair from 1990-97 and has served as the Region 7 Administrative Committee chairperson for women's gymnastics since 1997.
Perrott was the assistant coach for the Walden School Gymnastics Team, as well as co-director of the Walden School Continuing Education Gymnastics Program, from 1978-80. She was also assistant coach for the Mid-Atlantic Gymnastics Center from 1982-92.
She began her dance studies while earning a B.S. degree in music education from State University College at Potsdam, N.Y. In New York City, she danced with many companies before beginning her gymnastics training with Richard Martin at the Musawwir studio. She joined the Musawwir Gymnastics Dance Ensemble in1974 and later became co-artistic director in 1979. She toured with the group throughout the United States and Switzerland, including a performance at the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Below is a letter sent by Region 7’s Linda Johnson.
It is with such deep sadness that I share with you that Lynn Perrott, our Region 7 Administrative Chair, passed away last evening. Richard, Lynn’s husband, shared that she was surrounded by her family, and passed comfortably and peacefully. Lynn will forever leave her footprint in Region 7. As our Regional Chair, she led our region with strength, vision and compassion. Her first priority was our athletes, and she devoted her time and service to taking care of their needs. Working with our athletes brought her pure joy. She understood the needs of all of our members— including athletes, coaches, judges, and businesses. She balanced our regional committees’ experience, ideas and values. She always had her finger on the pulse of our region, and represented those views on our behalf both nationally and regionally. Her dedication to our region was always evident in the relationships she developed and fostered throughout our 6 states. Her inner strength and commitment to our sport guided her decisions and conversations, even during the most stressful circumstances.
Losing Lynn leaves a large void in our region and beyond, however her spirit will remain with us and continue to comfort and unify us as we move forward. We will remember her for her keen intelligence, sense of humor, wit and positive attitude, even in the face of her illness. She was an extraordinary leader for our region and, even more, a cherished friend.
Myra and I each had the opportunity to go to Lynn’s home this week to spend precious time with her, and to say good-bye. That time meant the world to us. Lynn knew how much we all loved her and cared about her. When she was first diagnosed with cancer, her words were “I choose to be happy”, and she was. Here is a beautiful message from Richard, Lynn’s husband:
“Lynn wanted you all to know this was not a fight; this was a dance, a dance with life. Lynn lived in love, care, and compassion of others as she moved through all aspects of her life. If you stop to feel, she is still here offering these qualities to all of us.”
Her family is so grateful for the support, caring thoughts and gestures from so many people in our Region 7 community. Please continue to keep Lynn’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
