Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 19/Jan/2015 Message: Catherine McGrath Wagar, formally of Wethersfield, died on January 5, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her son and daughter. She was married to Virgil Wagar for 62 years who preceded her in death. She was born in Newburgh, New York to Mary and Patrick McGrath on November 27, 1921 and graduated from the Benedictine Hospital School of Nursing in Kingston, New York as a registered nurse. She was the nursing supervisor at Wethersfield Manor, which then became Mediplex of Wethersfield. During this time she was also the nursing director of Little Leprechauns Early Care and Education Center in North Haven where she oversaw the care of hundreds of typical children and children with special needs for more than 20 years as well. Her retirement from the Manor afforded she and Virgil the opportunity to travel extensively and enjoy numerous cruises. They enjoyed a surprise trip to Ireland, where she maintained dual citizenship to see her ancestral homeland. She particularly enjoyed sharing with her eldest daughter and her first two grandchildren the stories of her father's native homeland. She shared an oral history of her life with her other two granddaughters and enjoyed reliving her experiences with them. She leaves her eldest daughter, Patricia E. Dotson of North Haven with whom she made her home, her son, Brian V. Wagar (Katherine) of Windsor, her youngest daughter, Catherine A. Lowe who also lived with her and her son-in-law, Everett Dotson. She also leaves her five grandchildren, Janis Dotson of Orange, Eric Dotson (Deanna) of Milford, Sarah Simeone (Christopher) of Windsor Locks, Amy Noel (Scott) of Danbury and Patrick Lowe. She leaves 5 great grand children and three nieces. She also leaves several special people in her life, Cindy, Patti, Paul, and her favorite furry friend, Peppy. The family would like to thank Patrick Gagnon, APRN for his caring and concern, Dr. Santo Buccheri for his superb insight and expertise and his many years of caring and attention to our family, he is truly without equal and to Dr. John Rogers for helping to make her last days comfortable. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 24th, 2015 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph's RC Church in the Poquonock section of Windsor, Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Should people desire, memorial donations may be made in Catherine's name to the Center for Domestic Violence, a program of BHCare 435 East Main St., Ansonia, CT. Replies to this post No replies yet |
