Born in Newburgh, NY on March 22, 1925, the first son of J. Leo and Mary (Mae Brady), Glynn was a lifetime resident of the Newburgh area. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1946 at Naval Supply Depots in Africa and Pennsylvania, honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class. He married Genevieve DeVito on December1, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Newburgh. He is survived by Genevieve, son James (Jerilyn) and daughter Kathleen (Alan) Guarino. Also surviving are grandchildren Margaret (James) Hosking, Laura (Brad) Smith, Allegra Guarino, Christofer Guarino and friend Jenna, and step-granddaughter Rachel (Jason) Arnott. Also, great grandsons Grant and Drew Smith, J.B. Hosking and Avery Arnott . Also surviving are brother John (Carol) Glynn, sisters-in-law Eleanor Owen, Mildred (Jeffrey) Starin, Gloria Freer and Elizabeth Glynn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers W. Joseph and Donald Gerard Glynn. He graduated from the University of Miami with a BBA and was named to the Alpha Kappa Psi International Professional Business Fraternity. He was employed by Central Hudson for 33 years. He served as Councilman for the Town of Newburgh in the 1960’s and decades later on the Town’s Planning Board. He was a 50 year LIFE member of the Town of Newburgh American Legion Post 1420. He held many command positions at the Post, County and Department levels. For over forty years he also served as Boys’ State Chairman and also Judge Advocate. He received many awards at all levels. He was a member of the first class named to the NY State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. He served as a member of the Orange County Legislature Advisory Committee and also the Veterans Advisory Committee for US Representatives Ben Gilman and Sue Kelly. He was a member and President of the Kiwanis Club of Newburgh and was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels. He was also a LIFE member of the Town of Newburgh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Past Chef de Gare (Cdr) of the Orange County 40 & 8 Society. Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Home, Gidney Avenue, Newburgh on Friday February 6th from 3 PM to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be co-celebrated by Father Bill Scafidi and Rev. David Coon at St. Mary’s Church, 180 South St, Newburgh, on Saturday February 7th at 11 AM. Internment with Military Honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marlboro will follow.
