Sidney "Sonny" Weinheim Jr. - Class of 1966

       Sidney "Sonny" Weinheim of Fuquay Varina, NC formerly of Newburgh, NY passed away peacefully on his birthday, January 30, 2015 after a long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife, Lynn; granddaughter, Kassidy; his brother, Steve and dear friends. He was 67 years old. He was a Life Member and former Chief of the Vails Gate Fire Department for over 50 years. He served as Chief of the department from 1982-84. He was a Decorated Vietnam Veteran serving his country in 67-68, Bravo Company 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division or better known as the "BIG RED 1". He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for bravery. Sonny is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Grad Weinheim; granddaughter, Kassidy Weinheim, mother, Edna Weinheim; siblings: Linda and Ed Spreer, Carolyn and Tommy Pacenza, Steve and Barbara Weinheim, and very special aunt, Dollie Leibowitz and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey Weinheim and his father,Sidney B. Weinheim. A private service was held in North Carolina. The private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 12 Noon, Sunday, February 15th at The Vails Gate Fire Department located in Vails Gate NY. All who knew and loved him are invited to join us. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Vails Gate Fire Department in his memory or the charity of your choice.
