Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 27/Feb/2015 Message: Ashton D. Rowell of New Windsor, a lifetime resident of the area, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 in The Veterans Home at Montrose. He was 86. Ashton joins the love of his life, Carmen, who predeceased him in 1995. Son of the late Ira and Grace (Weed) Rowell, he was born November 5, 1928 in Newburgh. Ashton was a prominent figure in the Newburgh area as a successful real estate investor. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Japanese Interpreter. A lover of languages, he spoke Japanese, Italian, Spanish and French. Dad was a larger than life individual. He loved his cruises and studying the dictionary, but most of all loved being a magician, and will be fondly remembered as "The Magic Man". Survivors include his three loving children: Ashton Rowell Jr. and his partner, Sandy Coakley, Lorraine Morrill and her partner, Steven Grogan, and Raymond Rowell and his wife, Mae; and cherished grandchildren: Alyssa, Marlaina, Todd, Alexandra, Robyn and Zachary. In addition to his beloved wife Carmen, he was predeceased by two brothers, Ray and Morse Rowell. The family would like to thank the New Windsor Country Inn and the Veterans Home in Montrose for their remarkable care and compassion. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 2nd at the funeral home, with Father Bill Scafidi officiating. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. We will miss you GooGoo Gots! Replies to this post |
