Philip F. Wangner III - Class of 1965

    Philip F. Wangner III , of Poughkeepsie, passed away on March 11, 2015. He was 67. Son of the late Philip F. Wangner Jr. and Anita W. (Wheeler) Wangner, he was born November 16, 1947 in Glen Ridge, NJ. Philip graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and attended Delhi Tech. He worked for IBM, East Fishkill as a Machine Operator, 12 years as a Manufacturing Department Technician and 9 years as a Production Control Scheduler. He then worked at Moroney’s Harley Davidson (nicknamed “Refill”) and Pine Bush Equipment as a Parts Counter Consultant. He was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Explorer Scout, attaining the second highest rank of Life Scout. He was the former Cub Scout Pack 82 Assistant Cub Master and Webelos leader and Troop 82 Scoutmaster for many years, and was a Town of Lagrange Little League Manager and Coach. He was also a life member of Twin Lakes Sportsman’s Association, Dutchess County Pistol Association, National Rifle Association and New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. Philip was a lifelong motorcyclist, hunter, and bowler. Survivors include his children, Philip F. Wangner IV, Dawn Conklin and husband Bill, Shawn Hazel, and Sheri Tompkins and husband Joe; his longtime companion, Maureen Hazel; brother, Alden Wangner and wife Marybeth; grandchildren, Sadie, Makenzie, Shawney, Kristen, Cynthia, Brian and Heather; several nieces and nephews; and many lifelong riding buddies. He was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Wangner. Visitation will be held from 2-6pm on Sunday, March 15 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 5:30 on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on Philip's behalf may be sent to the NFA Wangner Scholarship for Science, c/o Hudson Heritage Federal Credit Union, 2 Corwin Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550; or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10065.
