Joanne P. Ryan Seymour, a lifetime resident of Newburgh, NY, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2015. She was 67. Daughter of the late John Ryan Sr. and Ann Ruth (Hayes) Ryan, she was born October 30, 1947 in Newburgh. She was married to the late Jack Seymour, whom she married on March 15, 1969 in the Church of St. Joseph, New Windsor. She is survived by her children, Jennifer of Cornwall, supported by boyfriend Franklin and mother Rachelle, Ryan and his wife Dyani of Ashville, NC, and Sean and his wife Gina of Walden; her siblings, Ralph Taylor of Newburgh, Ruthann Golden of Worcester, MA, and Robert Taylor of Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, Sydney, Jack and Eli; nieces and nephews, Edna May and Heidi Seymour, Karen, Susan and George Taylor, Billy, Maryann, Jill, Pat, Jeff and Tom Taylor, Jeff Golden, who is also her godson, Brian Golden, Heather Pisano, who is also her goddaughter, and Vicki, Will and Tom Seymour. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Max and Lazer. In addition to her husband Jack, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gary Seymour, nephew and godson John G. Seymour, and brother, Bill Taylor. Today we are saddened by the loss of Mrs. Joanne Patricia Seymour. She was a very strong determined woman who was able to stand on her own and fend for herself. Her independence was her pride and she fought hard to preserve it. In February of 2014 she was given her biggest challenge of her life. She was informed that she had been stricken with cancer. It had metastasized and spread to various parts of her body. Over the year she underwent surgery, and withstood many chemo and radiation treatments. Still she fought without complaint and displayed more strength than we've ever seen. Unfortunately she met her match and was beaten by the disease and was unable to leave her bed for the remaining months of her year long struggle. She passed peacefully in the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. Joanne was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We mourn her departure, and celebrate her arrival. She is at peace with her reestablished family. We love her and miss her and are very grateful for the time we were able to share with her. On behalf of our family we would like to thank the Hospice program for helping us through this trying period. We felt very comfortable in your care. She was given back a quality of life when one no longer existed. We were able to have a healthy grieving period without the burden of caretaking. This program truly made all the difference with our experience. "No matter how cold the winter there is a spring time ahead" ~Eddie Vedder Love and Thanks, The Seymour Family. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, April 6 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, April 7 in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
