May Frew Benedict - Class of June 1938

  May Frew Benedict passed away on Thursday, April 2, at Valley View nursing home. She was born in Newburgh, NY on October 16, 1919, the third child of Andrew and Mae (Peck) Frew. She lived in New Windsor for many years and was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Newburgh. May was predeceased by her husband, Clarence B. Benedict, on February 2, 2006. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Theresa Salveati, George Frew, Margaret Coan, Thomas Frew, Helen Brandel, and Jean Cromwell, and son in law, George A Farkas, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Gail P. Farkas; son, George B. Benedict, and his wife Heather; grandchildren, Jacqueline M. Kaiser, Jeanine M. Kenny, George A. Farkas, Jr., Ross G. Benedict, Laura L. Benedict, and their spouses, Steven R. Kaiser, Thomas H. Kenny, Lisa Farkas, Jeffrey H. LaPierre; great-grandchildren, Nicole P. Kaiser, Samantha R. Kenny, Thomas R. Kenny, Madison R. Farkas, and Frankie Vidal; brother, William J. Frew; brother-in-law, Lawrence D. Coan; and numerous nieces and nephews. May was an avid bowler, a member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Amaranth, and worked in the Town of New Windsor Town Hall. Special thanks to Monica, Cheryl and the entire second floor Couser nursing staff at Valley View for the great care they gave our mother. Visitation will be at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, on Monday , April 6, from 4 to 7 pm. Services will be held at 11 am at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 7, with the Reverend David Mason officiating, with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
