Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 18/Apr/2015 Message: Jean Irene Vecchio, 87, died peacefully late Saturday evening, April 11, 2015, in the Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Vermont. She was born on Oct. 16, 1927, in Newburgh, N.Y., the only child of Thomas and Irene (Raven) Vecchio. After high school and business school, Jean first followed in her father's footsteps working at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She then spent a short time in civil service until 1959 when she began a decades-long career at IBM. She worked at IBM's Federal Systems Division in Washington and Omaha before moving and making her home in Essex, where she rose to Manager before retiring in 1987. In retirement, Jean traveled, read voraciously, and doted on a nationwide network of friends. With her dear friends from The Pines she took trips, organized gatherings, played cards, shared recipes, and lent a hand or a word of encouragement wherever she could. Jean's love of food was well known to everyone who knew her. It was said she remembered her vacations not by the sights but by the restaurants, and could recall what she had to eat anywhere she'd visited. Jean loved to cook for her friends and shared her creations around The Pines and beyond. Jean is survived by her close friends, Tom and Denise Hughes of Milton; and Denise's sons, Jason Cayia, and his daughter, Madison, Kevin Cayia, his partner, Nicole Dalton, and their daughter, Shealyn, and Landon Cayia. Jean's friendships extended well beyond Vermont to Julie Matthews and her daughter, Hilary, of Saugus, Maine; Claire Neafsy of Mount Airy, Md., and her children; Pam Gilhooly of Lady Lake, Fla., and her children, Sean, Colleen, and Meghan; her goddaughter, Joanne Seymour of Newburgh, who predeceased her on April 2, 2015; and Joanne's children: son, Sean Seymour, his wife, Gina, and their children, Sidney and Jack; daughter, Jeni; and son, Ryan and his wife, Dyani. Denise and Tom wish to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Burlington Health and Rehab and to everyone who kept in touch with Jean or visited during her stay there. At Jean's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Online condolences may be made to www.minorfh.com Replies to this post No replies yet |
