Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 19/Apr/2015 Message: Beatrice Swetz Kartis peacefully entered into rest at home on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 after a long illness. She was 85. Beatrice was born on April 29, 1929 in Newburgh, NY. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Kormondy Swetz. Both parents predeceased their daughter. Beatrice was married to George Kartis at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Roseton, NY in 1952. George predeceased Beatrice in 1997. Beatrice was a lifelong area resident. She was a Mortgage Specialist at Newburgh Savings Bank, Newburgh, NY. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Kartis of the Town of Newburgh, NY and son, George Kartis of Boston, MA; sisters: Rose Pikul and Anna Alessi, both of New Windsor, NY and several nieces and nephews. Bea graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1946. Bea was a kind, generous, giving mother, wife, sister and friend who will be missed by all. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking meals for family and friends. A creative person, Bea could create works of beauty from nothing. Bea appreciated the beauty and simplicity of life. She had a lifelong passion for pets and animals. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 20th at Engel Funeral Home, Inc., 5319 Route 9W, (Middlehope) Newburgh, NY. Services for family and friends will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21st at Engel Funeral Home, Newburgh, NY. Reverend Thomas Dicks will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Robert C. Engel of the Engel Funeral Home, Inc., Newburgh, NY 845-562-1144.
