Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 11/May/2015 Message: Arlene Smith Levien, of Cornwall, a lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was 88. Daughter of the late David and Ethel (Tulve) Smith, she was born March 13, 1927 in Newburgh, NY. She married her late husband Fred Levien on October 9, 1948 at St. Francis. They were married for 55 years. Arlene was a dedicated teacher of 25 years. She was a caring and loving mother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Arlene loved the beach, reading and traveling in her younger years. Arlene was a parishioner of St. Thomas and St. Joseph Parish. She belonged to Catholic Daughters and was an avid tennis player. Arlene graduated from N.F.A. in 1944 and SUNY New Paltz in 1948 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She is survived by her children: Beth Garland and husband Michael of Auburn, MA, Patti Lark and husband Rich of New Windsor, NY, Amy Walsh and husband Jim of Modena, NY, and David Levien and wife Donna of Middletown, NY; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many close cousins and long-time friends. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 15 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 16, at St. Joseph's Parish, New Windsor, NY. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Cornwall, NY.
