She was 88 years old. The daughter of the late Caspar W. Wells, Mildred Mulholland Wells and Helen Elizabeth Wells, Kathleen was born on January 19, 1927, in Newburgh, NY. She married Joseph Albert Palumbo on May 19, 1945 in a private ceremony. Kathleen was a loving mother of 8 children who chose a lifetime career in homemaking and socializing her family in the Judeo Christian Tradition and family values. Kathleen was a founding member of the High Flying Tops Club and initiated into the 3rd Order of St. Francis. Kathleen along with her husband Joseph Albert taught life in the Spirit Seminars at the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Balmville, NY. Together they ministered to untold numbers of children, teens and young adults in the local community. They were known as Mama Bear and Papa Bear to many youths at the Shepherds “In” Christian Coffee House Ministry. Kathleen’s baked ziti was legendary at youth gatherings and she taught bible studies out of her home for decades. She was perpetually known to be asking telemarketers and strangers if they knew Jesus and asked if she could pray with them. Kathleen encouraged family, friends and strangers to forgiveness and forbearance. Kathleen enjoyed music, sewing, needlework and crafts in her spare time and loved to sketch and paint. She spent countless hours preparing meals for those in need and local fundraisers, her favorite pastime was writing checks for children’s ministries and often stated that she wished she could send something more for all the children. Kathleen loved camping with her children, she had a beautiful voice and would sing her children to sleep by the campfire. She enjoyed scenic drives and picnics at the beautiful parks upstate NY. She held her head high in the face of adversity and loved with all her heart. Kathleen was fearless and of strong opinion. She loved reading books and discussing them with others, she could read a book cover to cover in a single day. She loved animals and was a supporter of the S.P.C.A. Kathleen was a matriarch who reached out to touch the lives of all those around wherever she went. Kathleen had a great love of history and genealogy. She was fiercely committed to her husband of 70 years until the day he passed and beyond.
