Margaret Agnes McCann McVey, a lifetime resident of Newburgh, enjoyed traveling, faith and family for the extent of her life until a brief illness took her on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the age of 94. The daughter of the late John and Katherine (Murphy) McCann, she was born January 17, 1921 in Newburgh. She was married to the late James R. McVey Sr., who predeceased her in 1988. Margaret was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh, where she was also a member of the Rosary Society, was a member of the Association of Professional Insurance Women, a member of Club 60, and was active in the War Bond Drive during World War II. She began her career as a bookkeeper for Shaeffer Appliance in Newburgh, then became the Department Manager for William A. Smith & Son in Newburgh until her retirement. Margaret's kind spirit and generous nature will be dearly missed by all. She is survived by her son, James R. McVey Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Wallkill; her granddaughter Bevin Pennings and her husband Willem; her grandson James L. McVey; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Evelyn Rose Pennings; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband James, she was predeceased by her sister, Nora Galvin, and her brother, Jack McCann. Visitation will be held from 11:30-12:30 on Tuesday, June 16 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:00 pm in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
