Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 23/Jun/2015 Message: Andrew “Andy” Masiero, of Pine Bush, NY, a lifetime resident of the area, died suddenly at home on Monday, June 22, 2015. He was 89. The son of the late Luigi and Johanna (Dall Vecchia) Masiero, he was born October 12, 1925 in Cedar Cliff, NY. Andy graduated Newburgh Free Academy in 1943. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, receiving a Purple Heart. Andy was a commercial truck tire salesman for Harvey Bros. Inc. and was a very active member of the community. He belonged to the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, refereed basketball, was an avid golfer, bowler, and baseball player for many years, and played on several semi- professional teams. He also coached baseball for the Newburgh Nuclears and was the President and coach for the Pop Warner football league of Newburgh. Survivors include his loving companion of 25 years, Harriet Shaver; his children: Butch Masiero of Newburgh, Darlene Dennis of Newburgh, Doug Masiero of Newburgh, Louie Masiero of NJ; his sister: Mary Petrillo of New Windsor; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Andy is predeceased by his wife Helen Rasczewski and his brother Albert Salvadore. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, June 25 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 26 at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, with Father Bill Scafidi officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
