Eleanor Gardner Conway - Class of January 1943

    Eleanor Gardner Conway of Newburgh entered into rest Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Elant at Fishkill in Beacon, NY. She was 91. Daughter of the late Edward A. Gardner and Elsie Samuel Gardner, Eleanor was born August 22, 1923 in Newburgh. Eleanor attended Newburgh Schools and was a graduate of NFA. She worked for Dupont Fabricoid for several years. She enjoyed Sunday school at Grace United Methodist Church, and many babies found comfort in her arms. She married the love of her life, Robert J. Conway, a Newburgh fireman on May 5, 1948. They enjoyed 53 years together until his death in 2002. She was loved by everyone she met and lived for her family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters and her brother, Edward A. Gardner Jr. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Susan A. Smith of Wappingers Falls, NY, her son, Robert J. Conway Jr. of the Town of Newburgh, four grandchildren; Christopher Clemente, Melissa Clemente, Matthew Smith and Janice Conway, seven great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will take place Tuesday, June 30th from 10 a.m. to Noon at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Route 32) Newburgh, NY. Funeral service will follow visitation at the funeral home. Pastor Jeffrey Hooker will officiate. Private Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor. In Lieu of flowers please make donations in Eleanor's memory to a charity of one's choice.
