Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 65 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 25/Jul/2015 Message: Mary Orsini Calaluca - Born to Antonio and Palma Rulli Orsini in Newburgh, N.Y. on February 22, 1922, Mary was the youngest of 7 sisters and 1 brother. She entered into eternal rest on July 23rd at the age of 93. In 1946 Mary married the love of her life, Ferdinand "Fred" J. Calaluca, who predeceased her in 1990 and to whom she will be devoted into eternity. In addition to making a loving home for her family, Mary enjoyed working as a beautician. Her clients became life-long friends. She was an avid cook who made amazing holiday feasts, a knitter of beautiful afghans, and a competitive card and rummy cube player. She loved reading--especially Mary Higgins Clark and Sue Grafton--doing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and taking regular trips to Atlantic City. She appreciated the company of her sisters throughout her life, and treasured her long friendships with Katherine Munday and Lucia Pomarico, with whom she shared abundant laughter and stories of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary is survived by a family that adores her: her daughter, Palma Calaluca Webb, son, Michael Calaluca and his wife, Michele, and granddaughters Ashley Webb Colleary and husband Paul, Kaitlyn Calaluca Mazza and husband John, and Lindsay Calaluca and Peter Gaetano. When she spoke of her beloved great-grandchildren, Colby and Luca, she laughed with eyes brightened-even in her final days. She took on technology to keep in touch with her family, enjoying regular skype dates with the Collearys in the Boston area and frequent YouTube videos and Facebook posts of Luca's and Colby’s adventures. Additionally, Mary is survived by her sister Assunta "Sue" Butwell and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Philomena "Fanny" Corrado, Lucia "Lee" Lease, Elda Gozza, Julia Clarino, Evelyn Owen Martin, and her brother, Michael Orsini. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 28 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 145 Benkard Avenue, Newburgh, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
