O'Donnell MacDonald of Newburgh, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, August 31, 2015, at her home in the Town of Newburgh after a brief stay at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence of Orange County. She was 91. A life time resident of Newburgh, she was born on August 28, 1924, the eldest daughter of the late Edward and Jennie (Serranto) O’Donnell. Before retiring in 1979, she was employed as a School Tax Collector by the Newburgh Board of Education. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Newburgh and a devout Catholic. She prayed the rosary daily. During her lifetime she was a member of the Osiris, Newburgh, and Storm King Country Clubs and enjoyed golfing with her husband Frank, family and friends. Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family always came first and she loved her home, especially decorating it for the different holidays. She will be sadly missed and remembered by those who knew her. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to Dr. Thomas Reed, and all the doctors, nurses, and especially the Golden Promises caregivers (Ana, Lizette, Trudy, Linda and Maria), and Kaplan house for their compassion and care. She is survived by: one son, Randy and Kathy MacDonald of Greenwich, CT; one daughter, Gail MacDonald of Nags Head, NC; one granddaughter Megan (MacDonald) Hodgson and her husband, Dawson, of Slocum, RI and two great grandchildren, Winfield Tucker and Charles MacDonald Hodgson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank MacDonald, sisters Ellen Jacobs and Jeanne Smitchger and brother, Edward O’Donnell, Jr. Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm on Thursday, September 3rd at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, September 4th at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Orange Lake, NY. A Christian entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Mausoleum.
