Peter C. Patsalos, a longtime resident of the area, died Saturday, September 19, 2015. He was 86. He was born on March 21, 1929 in Newburgh, the son of the late Constantine and Agatha Patsalos. Peter was the husband of the late Angelina V. Patsalos, his soul mate and the love of his life for over 52 years. He was an extraordinary husband, father and friend to all . Peter was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy, Seton Hall University and New York Law School. He began his career as a teacher at North Junior High School prior to establishing his legal career in private practice. He had a 43- year history of public service, having served as a City of Newburgh City Councilman (1966 – 1973), Attorney for the Newburgh Board of Education (1973-1977), Newburgh City Court Judge (1977-1983), President of the N.Y.S. Association of City Court Judges, delegate to the N.Y.S. Bar Association Committee on the Courts, Orange County Court Judge (1984-1985) and New York State Supreme Court Justice (1986-2006). Following his retirement from the Supreme Court, Justice Patsalos served as a Judicial Hearing Officer and a Referee in Discovery, and served as a mediator and arbitrator. For the past ten years he was of counsel at the Law Firm of Saffioti and Anderson. He was a life long member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh having served as Board President of the Parish Counsel and beloved member of the choir. He was also a member of AHEPA and the Newburgh Elk’s Club. He is survived by his four children: a son, Dean Patsalos; daughter, Ann Patsalos, her husband, Dr. Stephen Eric Enriquez; daughter, Jeanne M. Patsalos, and her husband, Vincent Trunzo; daughter Kristina Patsalos, and her husband Neal J. Wilkinson. Peter had five beloved grandchildren: Peter Enriquez, Erica Enriquez, Benjamin Patsalos, Paige Wilkinson and Neal Peter Wilkinson. Peter is also survived by his sister Pam Nekos and her husband Peter Nekos, and his sister in law, Penelope Vassell and his brother in law Gus Vassell, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Georgia Janis and his brother Demetrius Patsalos. Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Monday, September 21 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, September 22 in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Newburgh, with entombment following in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers memorial donations maybe made to the Institute for Educational Achievement, 381 Madison Ave., New Milford, NJ 07646; or St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 19 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550.
