Nancy Lee McDermott Deal of Fairfax, VA died suddenly on Thursday September 17, 2015, of a suspected brain infection at Fairfax Hospital. Nancy was born at St. Luke's Hospital and raised in Newburgh, NY by her parents, Catherine O'Donnell and James H. McDermott. She attended St. Patrick's elementary school where she was the "sparkplug" of the Shamettes girls' basketball team. Nancy graduated high school from Newburgh Free Academy where she was a member of the football Lassies, Cheerleaders, Alpha Sorority and the Children of Mary. Nancy's approach to life can be summed up by her senior yearbook quote: "Live, Love, and be Merry." Upon graduation in 1957, Nancy went to work for SDC at Stewart Air Force Base in the SAGE building where she met Richard Lee Deal, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. They married at St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh, NY on May 14th, 1961. After a stint in Cheyenne, WY and Santa Monica, CA, the couple moved back East and settled in Fairfax, VA to raise their family. Nancy is survived by her brother, James McDermott; five children: Richard Deal, Elizabeth Swedish, Jennifer Tracy, Patricia Deal and Timothy Deal; seven grandchildren and three nephews. Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. on October 3rd for a Mass service at St. Leo the Great Catholic church in Fairfax.
