William “Bill” Evans of the Town of Newburgh and a longtime resident of the area entered into the rest on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Bill was 83 years of age. He was born in Newburgh, NY on June 11, 1932, the son of the late Henry and Emma (Brooker) Evans. Bill attended Newburgh Schools, was a member of Local 464A, retiring from Newburgh Superior Packing and proudly served his country in the United State Army during the Korean War in 1952-1954. He continued in the Army reserves till September 30, 1960. He also served his community as a volunteer for the Middle Hope Fire Company. Bill joined the fire company in 1967, and was a life member for 48 years. He served as a past Captain and Lieutenant and was still serving as a Commissioner of the Fire District. Our father was a wonderful person, loving father, grandfather and the best great Poppi. He was kind hearted, generous, and could fix, build or make anything you asked him to do. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of his life and he was so proud of his entire family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Eugenia “Jean” Evans, of 59 years who passed away on March 31, 2015. He was an avid bowler with his wife back in the day. Bill is survived by his children: Carol Rivera and her husband, Roberto of Highland, William H. Evans and his wife, Kathi of Newburgh, Stephen W. Evans and his wife, Molly of Wallkill and Colleen Corizzo and her husband, Michael of Newburgh; his grandchildren: Jean Marie Rivera, Roberto Rivera Jr., and Gina, William Rivera, Christina and Richard Tuttle, Stephanie and Christopher David, Michele and Lee Slaughter, Michael and Jessica Corizzo, Andrew Kovalsky and William Joseph Evans; great-grandchildren: Shannon and Makayla Rivera, Alyssa-Lynn Rivera, Antonio and Travis Rivera, Isabel and Mia Tuttle, Chase and Cole David, Nicholas and Ellie Kovalsky and Amberley and Anthony Slaughter. He is also survived by his brothers and sister in law, Richard and Barbara Evans of Wallkill and Edward Evans of Virginia Beach, VA. His god daughter, Kimberli Carlstrom of Newburgh and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins along with many dear friends. Bill was predeceased by his nephew, Richard Evans, Jr. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Monday, October 12 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, with a firematic service at 7pm. A Service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 13 at Brooks Funeral Home, with burial with military honors following in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Middle Hope Fire Department, 11 Lattintown Road, Newburgh, NY 12550 or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550.
