William S. "Terry" Coach Coonan - Class of 1938

      William S. "Terry" Coach Coonan, 95, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, November 5, 2015. Born in Newburgh, NY, he attended Indiana University where he met the love of his life, Dolly Didier. Interrupted by service in the Coast Guard in WWII, they married upon his discharge. Graduating from Indiana University, they made their home in Huntertown, where he taught and coached. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church active in The St. Vincent de Paul Society. Known by everyone as "Coach Terry", he touched many lives with his infectious smile, his kind heart and loving nature. His coaching career included many years at Central Catholic High School, St. Francis College, and a principalship at Huntington Catholic High School. Surviving are his sons, William (Cindy) Coonan of Longview, Wash., Terry (Terri) Coonan of Ft. Wayne, John (Sallie) Coonan of Maitland, Fla, Dennis (Connie)Coonan of Cincinnati, Ohio and Tim (Patricia) of Chicago, Ill.; daughters, Cathy (Tony) of Baton Rouge, LA., Therese (Rod) of Little Rock, AR, and Margaret (Jeff) Petrie of Colorado Springs, Colo. Preceding him in death were his wife, Dolly, his daughter Mary Jane and his son, Jim (Theresa) of Ft. Wayne. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 15 at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Ft. Wayne, Ind. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Redeemer Radio. Most appreciated are comfort and prayers for the family.
