Submitted by Pauline Rute Hall 1952 <Grammypgh@aol.com> on 03/Dec/2015 Message: Elmer Miller passed November 30, 2015 in his sleep into the heavenly hunting and fishing grounds he loved so much. His canine companion Sam was there waiting for him. Surviving is the love of his life, Mae Miller of Cary NC. Some of the last words spoken was to tell her he still loved her. Also surviving is his daughter Paige Miller Haggett and granddaughter Haileigh Haggett which live in Cary at the home with Mae. His daughter Wendy Miller Purser and spouse Neal Purser along with grandson Cameron Harris Purser of Hempstead NC where Elmer made his home. He also leaves a close companion Bobby Testerman his caretaker for many years. Elmer was born in Newburgh NY to Eleanor Bilyou and Robert John Miller. His brother Jack predeceased him. Elmer was the youngest person ever admitted to St. Thomas Choir School in New York at the age of 8. He loved the museums of New York. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1951 and previously attended Kent School in Conn. before he worked in sales for Silk Electric in Newburgh. He entered the Army in 1953 where he made rank of Sargeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He married Mae Buckley of Newburgh on October 31,1958. He began employment with IBM and shortly transferred to North Carolina. He worked for IBM for 17 years and left there to continue in the swimming pool business. After owning his own company for decades he worked for ICI Americas in sales, introducing throughout the south east states the new product Baquacil. Elmer loved sports and played them as a youth and as an adult. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He retired and lived in Hempstead NC a small coastal town. He will be in the News & Observer online orbits, not sure when online. It will be published next Sunday in the Cary paper. Replies to this post |
