Deacon Franklyn R. Russell left his earthly life into the hands of God on December 14, 2015. Franklyn was the son of the late William and Sophie (Skipwith) Russell, and the beloved husband of Irene (Stevens)Russell for 60 years. Irene survives at home. Franklyn was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and was a track record holder at NFA and Cobleskill University. He was a Trim Supervisor at Ford Motor Co. for 26 years before attending St. Alphonso’s Seminary where he was ordained as a permanent deacon. He served as Catholic Chaplain at Eastern Correctional Facility for 20 years.. In addition to his loving wife Irene, he is survived by his children, Valentina and David Johnson of Maybrook, Debra and Harry Baker of Marlboro, Susan Peterkin of Maybrook, and Franklyn and Kim Russell of Marlboro;10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his mother-in-law Grace Stevens of Maybrook, two brothers, Skipwith Russell and Lee Russell of Newburgh; his sister Vena and Claude Ray of Cobleskill; 3 sisters-in-law, Shirley Harris of Queens, Grace and George Martin of Montgomery, and Mary Thomas of Maybrook; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Vincent, Raymond, James and Francis; 2 sisters, Bernetta and Julia; father-in-law Charles Stevens; and 2 brothers-in-law, Robert Thomas and Arthur Harris. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or YWCA of the City of New York, 50 Broadway, 13th Floor, New York, NY 10004, of which his daughter is Chairman. Visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Friday, December 18 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 19 in St. Patrick’s Church, Newburgh, with entombment following in Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh.
