Gloria K. DiPaul.Barbero, of Balmville, died peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, her loving family by her side; she was 89. Gloria was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Colonel John J. Barbero, USAF (Ret) just one month prior to her passing. Gloria was born March 9, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Maria Ciarleglio DiPaul and Prudenzio (Frank) Di Paul. She moved to Washingtonville as a young girl and later moved with her family to Newburgh where they lived on Bay View Terrace , “The Bluff”, in the first home built there. Gloria attended Newburgh Free Academy and after graduation worked in Newburgh for several years. Incredibly creative, Gloria was comfortable and successful working within several different handcrafts. From designing and creating handmade clothing for her children, to hand stitching queen sized quilts, she was able to produce works of art which are cherished by her family to this day. A master chef in the kitchen, her family meals became legendary. Gloria loved designing and planting her woodland garden she created with her husband. They also shared a love of birds and spent many hours identifying their individual traits and particular habits. Gloria and her husband John travelled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa, often with their dear friends and family. Time spent together with family was always her passion. She will be deeply missed and eternally loved. Survivors include daughter Linda Barbero and her husband Charles Nolan of Mystic, Ct., son Paul Barbero and his wife Edie, of Charlottesville, Va., daughter Cynthia Behan and her husband John of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., son Mark Barbero and his fiancé Heather Bonjolo, son Michael Barbero and his wife Norma of Silverdale, Wa. Gloria is survived by her sister Gemma Koran of Newburgh and her sisters-in-law Margaret Filiberti of Middlehope and Gloria Crisci of Newburgh. Also surviving are eleven adoring grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Gloria was predeceased by one brother Ernest Di Paul and two sisters Clara DeMarco and Mary Disare. She was also predeceased by Evelyn Antonucci Barbero, whose love and friendship she cherished throughout her life. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 23 from 5-8 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Church where Gloria was a communicant, at 10 a.m. on December 24th with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
