Bernhardine M. Morse Gage - Class of 1932

  Bernhardine M. Morse Gage of Westminster, Colo, & Walden, N.Y. a retired teacher for Valley Central Schools, and an area resident for most of her life, died May 27, 2004 in Westminster, Colo. She was 89. The daughter of Warren Morse and Emma Pimm Morse, she was born December 21, 1914 in Newburgh. With her late husband, Herbert L. Gage, whom she married on June 27, 1942 in Tacoma, Wash., she founded the Gage Agency Inc. in Walden, later moved to Middletown. She received her teaching degree from State University at New Paltz and bachelor degree from New York University. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Walden, United Methodist Women, Walden Woman's Club, and New York State Association of Retired Teachers. She enjoyed bridge playing and was a world-wide traveler following her retirement. Survivors include her son, Herbert L. Gage Jr. and his wife, Claire, of Middletown; daughter, Jeanne G. Downes of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Wesley Downes, Anna Downes, Stephanie Gage, Dennis Leskanic, and Brian Leskanic; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Brianna, Benjamin and Avery. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert L. Gage; brother, Warren Morse; and sister, Gertrude Morse. Visitation will be Friday, June 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank Street, Walden. Funeral will be Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home. The Reverend Kent Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The United Methodist Church of Walden. Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.
