Wilma Marker Harris - Class of 1958
Submitted by Fran Olson Gustafson 1965 <fgustafson917@gmail.com> on 29/Dec/2015 Wilma Marker Harris of New Windsor, a retired nurse at St. Luke's Hospital entered into rest Sunday, December 27, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was 74. Daughter of the late John P. and Rena (Strenge) Marker, Wilma was born June 15, 1941 in NYC but lived most of her life in New Windsor. She was a graduate of Flower and Fifth Ave School of Nursing NY Medical College in 1961 and worked for several years at NYU Medical Center in NYC. The rest of her career in nursing was at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. Wilma was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Alter Guild, and was on the Church Council for many years, four of them as president, and also sang in the choir.She raised her family in New Windsor and was a Cub Scout leader, worked at Planned Parenthood and was a member of Junior League of Newburgh. Survivors include her sons, Christopher Harris and his wife, Norma of San Diego, CA, and Kevin Harris and his wife, Donna of Mahwah, NJ; Aunt Helen Aguero of Southbury, CT. , grandchildren; Matthew and Alexandra Harris, Cindy Starky and husband, Ernest, Rebecca Hulsey and husband, Eric, great grandchildren; Joshua and Noah Starkey, Dylan, Devon and Aidon Hulsey, nephew, Jeffrey Marker and his wife, Cindy and their son, Michael Marker, her extended family, Kathy and David Zapcic and their children; Kyle, Colleen and Jake, Kerry and Nora McGrain and their children; Tommy, Colin and Flynn, and Kevin and his wife, Linda McGrain and their children, Katie, Evan and Erin, and cousins, Robert and Beth Marker, Thomas and Barbara Marker and Frederick Marker. In addition to her parents, Wilma was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Harris, brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) and Joy Marker, nephew, David Marker and her companion, Richard McGrain. Visitation for family and friends will take place 3 to 7 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Route32), Newburgh, NY. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 186 Fullerton Ave., Newburgh. Pastor Ernie Mossl will officiate. Cremation will follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
