Barbara Ellen Copeland Jacobs - Class of 1973

    Barbara Ellen Copeland Jacobs was a lifelong resident of Newburgh, New York who entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2016. She is the daughter of Fanny and Vernon Copeland Sr. Barbara was a hard worker who served her city as a building inspector for the city hall. She was a tremendous cook and her culinary creations will be missed along with her incredible spirit. Barbara was a beautiful person and her loss is insurmountable. She is survived by her children Jabulani and Jamillah Jacobs of Newburgh, Daviid of California, and Taurean of Yonkers, as well as her heroic son in law Damien Courtwright. Barbara was devoted to her eight grandchildren Quran-Myke' and Jyaire Adams, Isabella Fernandez, Shayla and Selby Jacobs, Dream, D'Ynasia, and Lourde Courtwright. She is predeceased by her father Vernon Copeland Sr., maternal grandparents Roger and Elizabeth Long, paternal grandparents James and Dinah Vandervort. Also left to mourn Barbara is her mother Fanny Copeland, her sister Jacqueline Burnett, Veronica Copeland-Meier, and her brothers Bruce and Vernon Copeland Jr. She is also survived by aunts and uncles James, Judy, and Jay Richard, Sheila, Blessie, and Marion Vandervort. She leaves several nieces and nephews as well as a host of cousins and friends. Barbara will be remembered for her love of family and notably her grandchildren. Visitation and services will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, February 3 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
